A very successful first (annual?) LGBTQ Youth Summit was held on September 17th in the GLBT Cultural Center to inspire youth to create change in their schools and become leaders through the formation and strengthening of gay-straight alliances.  The summit was sponsored by Montrose Counseling Center, Texas GSA Network, GLSEN Houston, U of H Urban Talent Research Institute, and made possible with the generous support of The Diana Foundation.

Coming Out Calls for a Celebration

Join OutReach United for the 5th annual Houston Coming Out Celebration. The party on Saturday, October 8, will include performances by Raja, Coming Out Divas (organized by Tye Blue), and an auction of artwork by local artists. The featured piece is by John Palmer and inspired by the struggles local GLBT homeless youth.

Stopping Traffic

On Tuesday, September 20, Montrose Counseling Center and Houston Rescue and Restore Coalition will present Cutting Edge, a movie about the rise of human trafficking and the sex trade in Romania. The film will begin at 7 p.m. in Rooms 106/107 of the GLBT Cultural Center, 401 Branard Street. This event is free and open to all; however the film does address mature subject matter, so viewer discretion is advised.

It’s Not Easy Being Rainbow

It’s not easy to talk about suicide, but we must. Montrose Counseling Center offers support groups and individual counseling for those dealing with depression or anxiety. If you find yourself spinning into darkness, volunteers with Gay & Lesbian Switchboard Houston are available for crisis calls, 24 hours a day,  at 713.529.3211.
