Each ticket will admit one person\, and each ticket includes a pre-signed copy of BEAUTIFUL ON THE OUTSIDE. \nAdam Rippon is an Olympic athlete and medal-winning figure skater. He won the 2010 Four Continents Championships and the 2016 U.S. National Championships and was selected to represent the United States at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang\, South Korea. He came out as gay in October 2015 and\, at the 2018 Winter Olympics\, won a bronze medal as part of the figure skating team event\, thus becoming the first openly gay U.S. male athlete to win a medal in a Winter Olympics. Highlighting what can be done locally to address trans specific issues and increase decreasing the numbers of trans murders in the south. The event will feature a resource and wellness fair for people living in and out of the binary. \nThis event is part of Black Trans Empowerment Week. This year\, in an effort to change the tone of the annual observance of Transgender Day of Remembrance\, Houston-based organizations Mahogany Project and Save Our Sisters United have coordinated Black Trans Empowerment Week\, not only to memorialize those who have been tragically lost\, but to charge forward into the empowered future they envision for all transgender people. Each event is an opportunity to uplift\, empower\, and remember the lives of those still with us as well as those who are gone.

SUMMARY:Montrose Center: Sunday Funday Volunteer Holiday Basket Extravaganza
DESCRIPTION:Holiday season is usually a time of festivities and personal time spent with loved ones. For many LGBTQ+ families experiencing food insecurity that is not the case. \nThat is why the Montrose Center tries to make holidays special LGBTQ+ families and HIV+ clients in need during the holiday season. \nThese include persons who are chronically unemployed\, seniors and disabled individuals surviving on fixed incomes\, individuals in transitional housing after fleeing from abusive partners\, and persons who are starting over after recovering from addictions. \nEach year\, the Montrose Center gives out 200 holiday baskets\, to those most in need\, so that they may enjoy a bountiful holiday feast. This year\, we would like to match that number\, if not exceed it.\nTo do that\, we need the help of our volunteers. We need help wrapping\, packing\, and distributing our holiday baskets. This is an extensive process\, so having volunteers to help with the process makes it easier to manage. DESCRIPTION:The annual Transgender Thanksgiving Potluck is a tradition started in the mid-90s by Brenda Thomas\, a fierce activist in Houston’s transgender community. Brenda unfortunately passed away in 2006\, but her legacy remains today. For the past few years\, the Montrose Center has worked alongside the transgender community to continue this tradition every year on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. This year\, we will continue a little differently. \nDue to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic\, socializing with our friends and chosen family is still not safe. As a community\, we have decided to continue that tradition of “togetherness” by hosting our first TGiving Drive-Thru Celebration\, on November 24th\, from 4 – 7 PM at the Montrose Center. This event is open to all members of the transgender\, non-binary\, and gender non-conforming communities\, regardless of financial need. For this event we will be following all the CDC recommendations to ensure the safety of everyone taking part in this event.
