From costumes to cuisine\, the Spring Gayla 2020: TV Land\, Honoring the Golden Gays of Television\, will be like nothing you have seen in Houston. \n\nExclusive Underwriters Reception at a donor’s home: April 24\, 2020\, 6p\nMain event at the Ballroom at Bayou Place on Saturday\, April 25\, 2020:\n\nVIP Reception 6p | Doors Open 7p | Dinner & Program 7:30p | After party to follow \nBenefiting Rapid Rehousing Services for Local LGBTQ Homeless Youth \nOne of the greatest challenges facing any city is the large number of LGBTQ homeless youth. There are an estimated 2\,500 homeless LGBTQ youth in the Greater Houston area and 25% of all LGBTQ youth become homeless when they come out to their parents before the age of 18. The Center is in its fourth year of rapid rehousing\, which takes homeless youth off the streets and places them in an apartment for 18 months. The Center pays for food\, rent\, transportation\, education\, and a full-time case manager to help these youth rebuild their lives. All the proceeds from the Spring Gayla will support the plan to end LGBTQ youth homelessness in Houston.

SUMMARY:Montrose Center: Sunday Funday Volunteer Holiday Basket Extravaganza
DESCRIPTION:Holiday season is usually a time of festivities and personal time spent with loved ones. For many LGBTQ+ families experiencing food insecurity that is not the case. \nThat is why the Montrose Center tries to make holidays special LGBTQ+ families and HIV+ clients in need during the holiday season. \nThese include persons who are chronically unemployed\, seniors and disabled individuals surviving on fixed incomes\, individuals in transitional housing after fleeing from abusive partners\, and persons who are starting over after recovering from addictions. \nEach year\, the Montrose Center gives out 200 holiday baskets\, to those most in need\, so that they may enjoy a bountiful holiday feast. This year\, we would like to match that number\, if not exceed it.\nTo do that\, we need the help of our volunteers. We need help wrapping\, packing\, and distributing our holiday baskets. This is an extensive process\, so having volunteers to help with the process makes it easier to manage. DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to the groundbreaking of the Montrose Center’s Law Harrington Senior Living Center! \nThe “There’s No Place Like Home” campaign\, led by honorary campaign co-chairs\, Mayor Annise Parker and State Rep. Garnet Coleman\, has hit its final financial milestone in order to break ground. \nThe complex\, designed by Smith & Company Architects\, will feature 112 one- and two-bedroom independent living apartments for low-income seniors ages 62 and older. Eligible seniors will pay no more than 30 percent of their income for rent. Additional features of the property will include a social services department managed by the Montrose Center\, geriatric primary care clinic provided by Legacy Community Health\, a group dining area\, meeting and game rooms\, fitness center\, a dog park\, a vegetable garden\, and outdoor recreational spaces. \nHousing is one of the greatest financial challenges\, and correspondingly\, one of the greatest needs for older adults across the nation. The groundbreaking event will also honor and thank Mayor Parker and Representative Coleman for their vision and work to launch the senior living center.

Attendees will have the opportunity to give feedback on our services and on their journey of smoking and quitting. \nThe feedback we receive will help us identify and eliminate barriers to service\, advise us on needs and trends in the consumer population\, and other ways we may improve or expand our services. \nYou do not have to be receiving services at the Montrose Center to participate but we are looking for people that have experience and/or familiarity with smoking.
